Ruth O. Myers

Ruth Olean Myers, beloved mother of two, adored wife, travel agent, environmental activist and cherished friend to many, passed away on Aug. 12, 2022.
Ruth, born May 2, 1944 in Clarksburg WV, was the daughter of Dr. Ralph and Betty Olean. A graduate of Martinsburg High School and Shepherd University with a BA degree in Music, Ruth supported her late husband, Bill, in the running of his insurance agency and went on to establish the very successful Preferred Travel & Cruise Inc. She was a long-time resident of Martinsburg, WV.
Ruth loved her family with all her heart. She spent the last few years unwaveringly caring for her husband of 56 years as he struggled with Parkinson’s Disease. They were each other’s best friend, and an unparalleled example of what marriage should be. Ruth unconditionally loved her daughters and was ever present with words of kindness, encouragement, humor, and support. Possessing an incredible singing voice, not only did Ruth perform in musicals at the local theater, she was an avid member of the choir at Trinity Episcopal Church. Even when the pandemic prevented her from attending services in person, Ruth could be found sharing her beautiful voice with whomever was in the room during streaming services at home. Ruth was also passionate about travel and the world around her. She and Bill had many adventures around the globe as well as with her daughters, both of whom have come to share her love of travel. Ruth was a voracious reader, enjoyed time at the family beach house, and was quick with a laugh! She was loved by many for her great kindness and empathy. She cared deeply for animals; and over her life, Ruth adopted the stray cats and dogs, who found their way to her house, and always loved her foremost of the family.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Mars of Seattle, WA and Carrie Myers and her husband Matthew Gambino of Winchester, VA; sisters Mona Marie Olean-Gambrill of Winchester VA, Rebecca Olean of Martinsburg WV, Jenevieve Hardee and her husband Ron of Martinsburg, WV; and adored aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth William (Bill) Myers, her parents Dr. Ralph and Betty Olean, and brother-in-law Charles Gambrill.
Visitation will commence at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2nd at Trinity Episcopal Church at 200 W. King St, Martinsburg WV. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. There will be a reception directly after.
