Alfred Wilson Wilcox
Alfred Wilson Wilcox (Pa Bill), 91, died peacefully at the inpatient unit of Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, WV on August 26, 2022.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 54 years, Ronda Jo Wilcox (Ma Jo).
He is survived by one sister, Paula Mae Wilcox, of Hagerstown, Md. He is also survived by his daughters, Dana Marie (Steven) Cifala of Kearneysville, Sandra Jo Wilcox (Kevin Wilson), Wendy Eileen (Thaddeus) Brown and bonus daughter, Meredith Matczak, all of Shepherdstown. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ariel Cifala, Laura (Jojo) Cifala, Gallean Glacier (Gigi) Brown and Mason Thomas Brown. He is also survived by his bonus grandchildren Jesse (Carrie) Cifala, Mimi (Shane) Rice, Anna (Alex) Watson, Jack Wilson and their families.
Pa Bill was born on April 7, 1931 in Mason City, Iowa.
He is a graduate of Cherokee High School. After high school, he spent several years in the United States Marine Corps, where he served stateside during the Korean War. He used the GI Bill to attend Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.
Wilcox moved to the Washington, D.C. area in the early 1960s, where he worked as a civilian for the department of defense and raised his family. He retired in 1986 from the Pentagon.
During his retirement, Pa Bill was an avid bicyclist and Civil War historian. One of his most memorable experiences, was riding his bicycle from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine, with support from his sister.
The Wilcoxes moved to Shepherdstown in 2000, to be close to children and grandchildren. He was best known around town for riding his bicycle, cheering at soccer games, and serving as crossing guard at Shepherdstown Elementary School.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Panhandle or the Democratic candidate of your choice.
A celebration of his life will be held October 22, 2022 at Shepherdstown Elementary School. The service will begin at 2 p.m., and there will be an opportunity to share a brief memory.
