Betty Schubel

Sep 30, 2022

Betty June Jackson Schubel, of Shepherdstown, WV, passed away on Sept. 20, 2022. She was 89 years old.

She was the daughter of Catherine Miller Jackson and Boyce Augustus Jackson, and grew up in Asheville, N.C. She was born on April 17, 1933.

Betty was a loving wife and Mom to her five children. She was the glue that held the family together, hosting many holidays and get-togethers as the family grew to include significant others, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved hosting parties for friends and was affectionately known as the “Belle of the Ball.”

While growing up, Betty lived at The Frith in Biltmore Forest. Her father and grandfather worked at Biltmore Estate. She recalled dancing to the Victrola in the estate’s ballroom, and many other fond memories. Betty graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, N.C. She attended what was formerly known as Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX, where she studied speech therapy/child development. She then moved from Asheville to Washington, D.C., where she worked at Group Hospitalization, Inc. She met her husband, Donald Schubel, and they were married on Sept. 13, 1958.

Betty was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved her Scottie dogs, and with her decorating passion, even had a whole room decorated with Scottie decor. She loved birds and nature, and really enjoyed reading and watching movies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Schubel, son, Scott Schubel, her parents and her sibling, Claudia Jackson.

She is survived by her children Greg (Deb) of New Zealand, Jodi (Bob) of Florida, Alec (Sandra) of Maryland and Rebecca of South Carolina; brother Miller Jackson (Bea) of Maine; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle. Betty spent 15 months there receiving an abundance of love and care from the wonderful staff.

A private memorial for both Betty and Don will be held at a future date.

Arrangements made by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
