Agnes V. Shriver
Agnes V. “Ginger” (Merchant) Shriver, 82, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at her home.
Ginger blessed all of us with her infectious laugh and kind heart and is now rejoicing in heaven with our savior, Jesus. She was an avid collector of antiques, with which she loved to beautify her home, and she especially enjoyed a great “find.” She never took herself too seriously, and everyone else’s joy was her joy. She would often say “What can I do for you precious?” Because to her, we are all precious and she was eager to do anything for us.
Born Dec. 7, 1939 in Moler’s Crossroads, WV, she was the daughter of the late Oliver P. and Mary Bell (Maddox) Merchant.
Ginger was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School with the class of 1957. She went on to earn her Bachelors of Arts Degree at Shepherd College in 1963. She and her husband of over 63 years, Raymond H. Shriver, were married Nov. 13, 1959 in Charles Town, WV.
Ginger was an elementary school teacher in Jefferson County, WV for 34 years. She was the Shepherdstown Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 1991, and a 1985 nominee for Jefferson County Teacher of the Year.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greencastle, PA, the Via de Cristo Community, Jefferson County Education Association, and West Virginia Education Association. In her youth, she was active in 4-H and her church’s youth group.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Raymond P. Shriver (Sherryl) of Smithsburg, MD, and Timothy C. Shriver (Mary) of Madison, WI; five grandchildren she adored: Matthew Shriver (Chelsea) of Westminster, CO, Phillip Shriver (Emily) of Renton, WA, Jacob Shriver of San Francisco, CA, Ana Shriver of Madison, WI and Gus Shriver of Madison, WI; two great-grandchildren she loved video chatting with: Elise Shriver and Everett Shriver; sisters Mary E. (Merchant) Wharton of Ranson, WV, and Sue A. (Merchant) Kesecker of Shepherdstown, WV, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Oliver P. Merchant and Gene Maddox Merchant.
