Helen J. Barrow

Helen Jane Cook Barrow, 105, of Arlington, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022.

Born Jan. 27, 1917 in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Franklin and Laura Francis Byers Cook.

She was an elementary school teacher having taught five years in Jefferson Co., Maryland for five years, and for 29 years in Arlington, for a total of 39 years.

She was a member of the Arlington Retired Teachers Association and took an early retirement due to the death of her husband. She then continued running her family business; Hi-Lo Recreational Vehicles.

After retirement, she volunteered her time with church and community services and did world-wide travelling. A proud achievement was contributing over 8,000 volunteer hours at the Virginia Hospital Center.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown and Faith Lutheran in Arlington.

She was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School and Shepherd College (class of 1940), with additional studies at the Universities of Maryland, Virginia, George Washington University, and American University.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Barrow, and two brothers, Horace L. and Charles F. Cook.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 112 N. King St, Shepherdstown, WV 25443
