Rebecca ‘B.J.’ A. Kirby

Rebecca “B.J.” Allara Kirby, 69, of Charles Town, WV passed away after a nine year battle with cancer on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022 at Hospice of the Panhandle, IPF in Kearneysville, WV.
She was born Dec. 17, 1952 in Winchester, VA and was the daughter of the late Dr. Earl D. Allara M.D. and Rebecca Alger Allara.
She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town, WV.
Rebecca is survived by her husband of 45 years, John A. Kirby; her son, John D. Kirby and wife, Wendy of Charles Town, WV; her daughter, Amy Kirby Casssidy and husband, Tommy of Round Hill, VA; eight grandchildren, Brian Long, John and Lillian Kirby, Brayden, Maile, Ashby, Allara and Ayres Cassidy; one brother, Dr. E. Douglas Allara Jr. DMV of Charles Town.
She graduated from Charles Town School Class of 1970, received her B.A. in Elementary Education in 1974 from Shepherd College, and then received a M.S. degree in Reading Education in 1978 from West Virginia University.
Rebecca was a teacher with Jefferson County Schools for 40 years. She began her career at Page Jackson Elementary, then moved to Charles Town Jr. High, Jefferson High School and ended as the Head Teacher, where she began, at Page Jackson Elementary Schools. During this time in education, she served on many committees and also served numerous years as assistant cheer coach at Jefferson High.
She enjoyed Jeep trips to the beach and Graves Mountain Lodge. Any spare moment she had, she loved to read. She loved spending time with her family but above all her grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Pastor Paul Brown officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022 from 6-8 p.m.
