Eleanor D. Hale

Eleanor Dorrene Hale, 80, of Harpers Ferry, WV, passed away at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottsville, VA, surrounded by her family on Feb. 4, 2023. She will become another angel in heaven.
She was born Jan. 4, 1943 in Bakerton, WV and was the daughter of the late George W. Gageby and Elizabeth M. Ambrose Gageby.
After graduating from Harpers Ferry High School in 1960, she went to work at the Pentagon outside Washington, DC. This is where she met the love of her life, Donald L. Hale and they were married on April 21, 1962.
She was a life-time member of the Uvilla Methodist Church, Shenandoah Junction, WV. She was a member of the Harpers Ferry Alumni Association and an Elmwood Cemetery Board member. She also was the Registrar of the Pack Horse Ford Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also belonged to The Daughters of American Colonies, National Society Daughters of 1812 and Daughters of Colonial Wars.
She loved genealogy, reading, and traveling with her husband. Time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was precious to her. She was a very special lady, who was always cheerful, helpful and had a smile for all. She will be missed.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Donald, along with son Donald Bret Hale, Sr. and wife, Laura of Harpers Ferry, WV. She leaves two grandchildren, Captain Bret Hale, Jr., USAF and wife, Chi of Fort Belvoir, VA and Sarah Hale DeLawder of Falling Waters, WV.
She was very blessed to have 5 great grand-children, Gemma, Everett, Vera, and Jessa Hale and Chanel (Coco) DeLawder., as well as her sister-in-law, Mary S. Gageby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Glenn Gageby.
Service and interment will be private to the family per her request. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 18, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Uvilla Methodist Church, 4179 Shepherdstown Pike, Shenandoah Junction, WV 25442, followed by a meal in the Fellowship Hall.
