Jacob E. Rabatin

Mar 3, 2023

Jacob Edward Rabatin, Charles Town, died at Reston Hospital following surgery on Wednesday, Feb. 15, after a months-long struggle with congestive heart failure. He was born April 15, 1938, and is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Finney Rabatin, three sons and four grandchildren.

He and his family enjoyed summers on Swan’s Island, Maine, his Happy Place. His children and their families continue the tradition, counting their Swan’s visits as highlights of each summer. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and spent many years coaching youth soccer.

The most important of his activities was Lutheran Marriage Encounter. He and June were Weekend Presenters, and they also served as the National Presenting Couple Coordinators.

He was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown.

His final act of generosity was his participation in The Human Gift Registry. His family is rejoicing that the earthly Jake is making this final contribution while his now-perfect heart is enjoying Heavenly reunions with loved ones in God’s eternal presence.

Visitation will be Monday, March 6, from 6-8 p.m. at St. James’ Lutheran Church, Shenandoah Junction, WV. A service of celebration of his life on earth and his new eternal life will be held March 7, 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, ELCA World Hunger, or Swan’s Island Historical Society.
