May 30, 2023

Annette L. Offutt Brennan of Shepherdstown, WV, age 54, passed away from this life on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer, and joins her father, Walter E. Offutt of Frederick; grandparents, Ralph and Florence Virts of Knoxville; grandparents, Linwood and Helen Offutt of Frederick; in-laws, John “Jack” and Doris Brennan of Frederick, stepfather, Robert LaGrave of Charles Town, WV and brother-in-law, Michael Brennan, in the next life.

Annette was born on July 21, 1968 and raised in Frederick, MD. She graduated Class of 1986 from Frederick High School, attended Frederick Community College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Shippensburg University, PA in 1990. She was in various clubs in school, played in the marching/concert/jazz bands and also played varsity field hockey. She started her career as the first mid-day air personality at WAFY Key 103 in Frederick and worked her way up to her dream job as an IT Specialist at the US Department of Veterans Affairs in Shepherdstown, WV, specializing in virtual training production and information system security.

Annette loved hiking with her husband, Tim and their dog, Zoey, and snuggling with their cat, Buffy. She enjoyed nature, from the burgeoning growth of spring to the lightening bugs, butterflies, and dragonflies of summer to the falling leaves of autumn and the first flurries of winter. She marveled in magnificent sunsets. Annette loved reading, knitting, home decorating/improvements, genealogy, music, yoga and cooking. Many will remember her amazing gluten/dairy free chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed history and loved music of all kinds but loved movie soundtracks and classical music the most. She also loved treasure hunting at auctions with her mother. Her greatest passion was raising her two sons, Joey and Danny and being a part of their lives whether it was listening to Joey plan improvements to his truck or getting sun-burnt watching Danny play baseball.

Annette leaves behind her loving husband of 29 years, John “Tim” Brennan; their two sons, Joseph (fiance’ Kelsee Orr) and Daniel Brennan, both at home in Shepherdstown, WV; and her mother, Jean Virts Offutt LaGrave of Charles Town, WV. In addition, she leaves behind a cousin, who was more like a sister, Cindy Miller Sabato and husband, Ed of Warrenton, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Mindy Brennan of Nashville, TN, aunt-in-law, Patricia Hunter, and cousin-in-law, Jean Marie Lewis, both of Forest Hill, MD, uncle and aunt, Mike and Sharon Virts of Purcellville, VA, uncle and aunt Terry and Virginia Miller of Frederick, MD, cousin, Jessica Burdick and husband, Paul of Charles Town, WV, and cousin Erin Virts of Purcellville, VA, as well as many other extended family members. In addition, she leaves behind a huge group of friends who fought by her side every step of the way, as well as her co-workers at VA/ITWD who were like family to her.

The family will receive friends at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 6-8 p.m.
