Carol C. Hunter

Jun 2, 2023

Carol Cynthia Hunter, 72 and affectionately known as “Chick” by family and friends, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 19, 2023.

Born May 11, 1951, in Jefferson County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Cora (Hughes) McDonald.

Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where she enjoyed serving as a member of the Usher Board. Carol was educated in Jefferson County Public Schools and was a member of the last graduating class at Shepherdstown High School. She was a hard worker who took immense pride in whatever job she performed. Carol was employed by Corning Glass Works in Martinsburg, West Virginia for thirty years and was a member of the “fire brigade.” From 2005-2009, she was employed by the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Carol retired in 2016 from the Shepherd University Wellness Center where she was adored by the staff, students, and community members. Carol had an infectious personality that drew people to her. She was an avid reader, especially anything by James Patterson. She wrote poetry and penned a country song titled, “She Wore Lace Around Her Navel.” Carol was a master at arts and crafts, sharing her talent with family and friends. She was an exceptional baker famous for her pies, caramel cakes, and apple dumplings. In fact, if you never enjoyed one of her apple dumplings, then you’ve never had a taste of heaven. Carol was a fierce lover of anyone she considered family.

Left to cherish her memory are her dedicated husband of 52 years, Vernon Craig Hunter, Sr.; beloved children Carla Hunter and Vernon “Craig” Hunter, Jr.; loving daughter-in-law, KaraJo Hunter; cherished grandchildren, Dmitri Hunter and Alysia Hunter; devoted best friend and sister Barbara Branson; four brothers, Richard, Charles, William, and Nelson McDonald; sister Gloria Guy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Leslie, and Stanley McDonald, as well as three sisters, Helen Houser, Norma Branson, and Cora Mae Houser.

Celebration of life services was on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Reverend Rudolph Bropleh officiating.

Interment will be at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
