Col. James M. Reuss
James M. Reuss passed away suddenly due to complications from a fall on June 22, 2020, at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital with his wife and friends by his side.
He was born July 12, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son of the late Homer McLeod Reuss and Dorothy Vesoy Reuss.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Martha Sue Webber Reuss; two daughters, Robyn Reuss Ramsey, and husband Tom, of Worthington, Ohio, and Renee Reuss Ward, and husband Paul, of Lexington, Ohio; five grandchildren: Sabrina, Gabrielle, Paul, Steve, and Sarah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Peter Reuss.
Col. Reuss was previously the logistics group commander for the West Virginia Air National Guard 167th Airlift Wing. He held the position for more than 19 years and a total of more than 38 years in the military. Col. Reuss’s awards and decorations include The Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and The Air Force Achievement Medal.
After his retirement in December of 1999 from the West Virginia Air National Guard, Col. Reuss was a substitute teacher in Berkeley County, followed by a Mathematics professor for Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University. Col Reuss also served on the Martinsburg Airport Authority and was a previous member of the Martinsburg Rotary for several years.
He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia on June 21, 2023 @ 1 p.m. with full military honors.
