John E. Traxler

John Edward Traxler, 79, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Meritus Medical Center.

He was born July 5, 1943 in Janesville, WI, to the late Samuel Jacob Traxler, Jr. and Myrtle Alice Hull Traxler.

He retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service on submarines as a Chief Petty Officer. After military retirement, he worked over 20 years for BAE Systems and while working he went to school in the evenings and graduated from Shepherd College. For the last 15 years he has volunteered through AARP doing taxes for those in need and has been the WV State Coordinator for AARP for the last 5 years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in various capacities. He lived a life of service and found joy in being a husband, father, grandfather and in serving others.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy E. Holbrook Traxler; Jeffry L. Chandler, Leamon D. Chandler, Gloria Nottingham, William F. (Lek) Chandler, Joy A. (Robert) Mathews-Carter, Wendy L. (Ryan) Hardy, John E. “Eddie” (Emily) Traxler Jr., David P. (Summer) Traxler, Rebecca A. (Adam) Stratton, and Samuel J (Carissa) Traxler III. He is survived by twenty-six grandchildren, Jeffery Chandler, Amanda Chandler, Christopher Chandler, William Chandler, Jennifer Traxler, William Perkins (Deceased), Jeannette Traxler, Zachary Chandler, Hannah Mathews, Spencer Carter, Victoria Hardy, Christian Traxler, Hayden Traxler, John Traxler III “Jonny”, Marshall Traxler, Suzette Traxler, Ian Traxler, Adella Traxler, Levi Traxler, Naomi Traxler, Lisa Stratton, Andrew Stratton, Alice Stratton. Lillian Traxler, Camille Traxler; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Richard C. Traxler; one sister, Peggy Salazar

He is preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa A. Chandler; one granddaughter, Morgan Hardy; one brother, Robert C. Traxler; and one sister, Jacqueline A. Gil.

The family will receive friends on Thursday June 22, 2023 at 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on 1050 Lovelace Way, Martinsburg, WV with a service following from 7:00 to 8:00p.m.

Interment will be on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Culpepper National Cemetery.
