William Hitt

William Hitt, 86, of Ranson, WV was called to his heavenly home on Saturday May 27, 2023 following a long illness where his son, Michael Darren greeted him with a hug. He was born at home on Feb. 9, 1937 the third child of the late Mabel Lewis Barfield Hitt and Clyde Raymond Hitt.
Along with his parents and son, William is reuniting with his brother Clyde Hitt Jr. & sisters, Mary Alice Myers and Betty Nothstein.
Dad always had a love of math and chemistry and even had a chemistry lab in his basement so it was no surprise he majored in chemistry at Shepherd College and after graduation worked in geriatric research at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg.
Dad married my mom Nancy Lou Dunn on June 23, 1956 at the Charles Town Baptist Church surrounded by family. They would have celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. Living in an apartment above City Hall in Ranson I was born the next year and my brother three years later. He was affectionately known as Sweet Boy by his three grandchildren.
Dad didn’t just attend Charles Town Baptist Church on Sundays he followed the teachings of his faith to love and accept his fellow man and saw the good in everyone. He never complained and never lost his wit or sense of humor even in those last days. He loved Sudoku puzzles (which he did in pen), the Redskins and Red Sox and he loved visiting family in Myrtle Beach. Friends and family will miss Dad’s famous Pimiento cheese spread.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Lou Hitt; daughter, Cathy Hoffman, and her husband, Doran of Myrtle Beach, SC; much loved daughter-in-law, Chippie Hitt of Charles Town; grandson, Brandon Hitt and his wife Brianna of Charles Town; granddaughters, Brandy Poss and her husband, John and Cassy Hoffman both of Richmond, VA; great grandsons, Tyler and Landon Poss of Richmond, VA.
Thank you to family and friends who helped Dad stay at home as long as possible.
