Margaret Sarah Wilson Olcott

Margaret Sarah Wilson Olcott died on July 6, 2023 at the age of 107 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two older sisters, Mae Wilson Harper and Lena Wilson Morris.

She was born April 24, 1916 in New York City. She was the first in her family to graduate from college at New York State Teachers’ College. in New York with a degree in English.

Margaret was honored to be in the Navy during World War II in Washington, DC in Classified Naval Communications. After the war, she married Eugene Louis Olcott, a metallurgical engineer. Eugene and

Margaret lived in the DC area and raised their children. They retired to their farm in Shepherdstown, WV in 1974.

She is survived by her three children; Dr. Janet Wilson Olcott and Michael Shepp, Dr. Bruce Mark Olcott, and Dr. Barbara Olcott Malone and George Malone. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; Sarah (Chris Allen), Zachery (Annie Olcott PhD.), Travis (Karen Weis M.D.), and Elizabeth (Craig Fowler) and five great grandchildren.

Margaret was active in Shepherdstown Women’s Club for 38 years as well as AARP.

The graveside ceremony will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on 4878 Kearneysville Pike, Shepherdstown, WV 25443 Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 2 p.m. Chaplain Tony Pirrone will officiate the service.

Arrangements are by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Ranson, WV.
