Janice I. Hartley Cook

Janice Isabell Hartley Cook, 89, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center with her three children by her side.
Born Oct. 20, 1933, at home in Rileyville, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Hartley and Annie Jenkins Hartley.
She graduated from Shepherdstown High School in 1951. She married her husband Willliam “Henry” Cook on Sept. 22, 1951 and was married for 66 years upon his death in 2017. She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church. Janice worked at The Lace Store, Nichols Department Store, and Perfection Garment Co. After retiring, along with her husband, she worked seasonally at Musselman-Knouse Foods. Her greatest joys were her family and being a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Ellen Spencer (Harry “Buddy”) of Martinsburg; sons Kenny Cook (Debi) of Crozet, VA and Donnie “Don” Cook of Martinsburg; a brother John “Peachie” Hartley (Isabel) of La Marque, TX; sisters Sallie Stolipher of Martinsburg, Ruth Ellen Hollar of Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law Donna Hartley of Trout Run, PA; five grandchildren Susan Carbaugh Wathen (Chris) of Charles Town, Kenda Cook Thurston (Hance) of McDowell, VA, Greg Carbaugh (Heather) of Martinsburg, Brandon Cook (Russanna) of Lynchburg, VA and Whitney Cook Steele (William Henry “BJ”) of Lynchburg, VA and 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter on the way.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter Nancy Diane; a sister Mary Shade and a brother Robert “Bob” Hartley.
Janice will truly be missed by her family and many, many friends that knew her.

Family will receive friends Friday, July 14, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.
Funeral service was held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, with The Reverend Rachel Crumley officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery, following the service.
