Peggy Swope

Peggy (Rogers) Swope, 88, started her journey to Heaven on July 7th from her home in Shepherdstown under the care of her daughter and Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Anna Marie Rogers on June 1, 1935 in Bunker Hill, Peggy was the daughter of the late Anna Mary (Rutherford) Rogers and William “East” Rogers. She married Martin Swope in September 1954.
Peggy was a wonderful mother who dedicated her life to her husband and raising their 3 children. She enjoyed vacations at the beach, camping, traveling, and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. Some of her favorite activities were gardening, going out to dinner, reading, listening to music, dancing, and going to the movies. Later in life she loved gathering with her friends and family at McDonalds, Wendy’s and at the Berkeley Senior Center to play games of Bridge and do various activities such as dancing and exercising. She loved birds, especially Hummingbirds. Peggy was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown. Everyone knew Peggy to be the sweetest, lightest, mild-mannered, most patient, fun loving lady who enjoyed a good laugh. She made friends wherever she went. She is the kind of person that everyone needs in their life; she loved life and her smile always lit up a room!
She is survived by her son Ricky Lee Swope and wife Pam; daughter Melody Ann Swope; two grandchildren, Corey Lee Swope, and Amelia Elizabeth Swope Jones; three great-grandchildren, Lilly Swope, Scarlett Jones, and Hayden Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Martin Walter Swope, her oldest son, Ronald Martin Swope, and all eight of her brothers, and one sister.
Peggy registered for the Human Gift Registry at WVU. She was passionate about donating her body to medical science as her one last gift to the world.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to be sent to Hospice of the Panhandle In Memory of Peggy Swope. Donations can be sent online at: hospiceotp.org or mailed to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
