Chengtung ‘Tom’ Weng

Chengtung “Tom” Weng, 75 of Shepherdstown, WV passed away on Dec. 1, 2023.

Born on March 19, 1948 in Guam Zhou, China he was the son of the late Sang Leow Weng and Quo Po Fa.

He moved to the US as a foreign exchange student in 1968.

He was a graduate of West Virginia University in 1973 and earned two Masters Degrees. Tom worked for Jefferson County Board of Education as well as Loudon County Board of Education as a Behavioral Disorder Specialist and Mandarin teacher for over twenty years till the time of his retirement in 2020. He loved chaperoning his class to China, he was a man of honor and proud of his heritage.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, being with his dogs, and cooking.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Weng; children: David A. Weng (Ashley), Sithichai D. Weng (Jenny), Darlene D. Shafer (Jay); grandchildren: Noah Weng, Brooke Weng, Emma Olson, Logan Weng, Adalyn Weng, Diem Weng, Norie Weng; great grandchild: Ellowyn Lewis; sister: Huingim Sao Keng Weng and family friend John Fairall.

A Gathering of Family and Friends was held at Rosedale Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 from 2-4 p.m.
