Jon W. Wilson

Jon William Wilson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 8, 2023. Born July 12, 1937, in Martinsburg, WV. He was the son of John W. Wilson and Helen V (Manspeaker).
Jon graduated from Hedgesville High School in 1955. He attended Shepherd College for one year. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1957 at the age of nineteen as an aviation recruit. He served on the US aircraft carriers Franklin D Roosevelt, Enterprise, America and Nimitz. His titles while on these ships included Catapult captain, deck edge operator and catapult chief. He carried the tide of aviation boatswain mate his entire career. Upon leaving the Nimitz he was appointed to the Navy Corrections system by the Secretary of the Navy for his leadership skills. He served there until his retirement on Dec. 21, 1979, after serving his country for twenty-three years. He retired as a Senior Chief petty officer.
In January of 1980 he went to work for the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. His title there was Environmental Supervisor. He worked there for 22 years and retired from there in June 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents John W. Wilson and Helen V. Wilson and granddaughter Alicia E. Wilson.
Jon is survived by his loving wife of 62 wonderful years Helen Mary (Powers) Wilson. A son Shawn P. and wife Michele L (Estep) Wilson. Two grandchildren Michael A. and Andrea L. Wilson. A sister Barbara E (Wilson) Ellis and husband Marvin, their sons and their family.
A visitation was held at Rosedale Funeral Home on Dec. 19, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Mass was at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg at 10 a.m., with burial following in Rosedale Cemetery with Military Honors.
