Howard E. Butts

Howard Eugene Butts, 71, peacefully passed away on Jan. 1, 2024, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lynn (Cook) Butts; sister Karen Light (Larry); brother-in law and sister-in-law Jacob and Christy Files; a number of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and his father-in-law, LeGarde Cook (Bernice).

Howard was born on Sept. 4, 1952, in Martinsburg to Howard August Eugene Butts and Marie Thelma Dye Butts. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Howard graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, MD, in 1971. He attended Shepherd College and graduated in 1979.

He served in the United States Air Force for twelve years.

After being in the military, Howard worked as a contractor, restoring historical properties in the Martinsburg area. He was a fervent researcher and documenter of local history.

A Memorial Service will be held at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, 601 Albert Street, in Martinsburg, on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024. Visitation is at 11 a.m., service is at 12 p.m., and a luncheon will follow.
