Charles C. Spencer

Charles C. Spencer, 80, of Martinsburg, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March12, 2024. He passed away from stroke related complications.
Charles was born on May 15,1943 to Charles M. Spencer and Lena V. Spencer in the East Gate area of Roanoke, Va. Throughout the years he resided in Cloverdale Va, Montvale, Va and Martinsburg, WV.
He was a Vending Route Driver and Attendant in his early years. Charles, better known to friends as Charlie or “Spence” was an Auto Mechanic from the 1960’s through his later years. He was employed at McDonalds Farm Machinery in the 1960’s. Charlie’s major trade was his master carpentry skills, building his own and other energy efficient homes and unique sheds. Quality work was his motto!
Charlie enjoyed walking 5 miles a day, wood crafting, writing quirky poems, taking part in neighborhood activities with friends Edna Jenkins and Shelly Lewis. He liked being creative, even baking cakes with Edna from time to time. His first car was a Buick. He remained a dedicated Buick Man! Charlie attended Maplewood Baptist Church along with friends and neighbors, April and Carl.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Charles Mitchell Spencer 9-11-1963, his mother Lena Virginia Busic Spencer 11-23-1999, brother James R. Spencer 5-10-1987, Sister Dorothy Inez Spencer Simmons 7-17-2004, Brothers Alvin M Spencer 5-18-2016, Glenwood E. Spencer 6-14-2007 and Richard L. Spencer 7-14-1993.
He is survived by one brother Clarence W Spencer, 78 of Roanoke Va, Uncle Claude Dudley Busic and wife Dorothy of Ashland, Va, several cousins, many nieces and nephews including Donna Jean Simmons Painter, his faithful care giver of Shepherdstown, WV and special long-time friends Charles (Charlie Bill) and Stephanie McDonald of Glencoe Farm.
Services were at Brown’s South Berkeley Chapel on March 23,2024. Viewing was at noon. Service was at 1:00 PM, with Reverend Carroll B Williams of Maplewood Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
Pall bearers were Charles McDonald, Clint Dunlap, Jerry McDaniel, II, Johnny Wilson, Paul McDaniel, Ronnie Simmons. Honorary bearers Jerry W. McDaniel and Lewis (Mike) Painter.
Reception for family and friends at Maplewood Baptist Church following the service.
