Otis C. James

Pastor Otis C. James, of Shepherdstown, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, in Kearneysville, WV.

Born Dec. 8, 1951, in Laurel, MS., to the late Willie and Marie Vaughn James.

After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he became Pastor of (Hereford Charge) serving under three United Methodist churches in Baltimore, MD; Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, in Heilberg, MS; Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Judea Christian Community Church and Sinai Christian Church of Jesus Christ, all in Charles Town, WV.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Vanzego-James; daughter, Dionne Vanzego; two sons, Ezekiel Jefferson and Otis A. James; six grandchildren, Quanisha, Asia, Deja, Elijah, Amoni and Aniyah; five great-grandchildren, Jalil Jr., Ethan, Eli, Emery and Luka; sister, Ellen Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and loving friends.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Asbury United Methodist Church, in Shepherdstown, with Pastor Derek Shackelford officiating. Viewing was one hour prior to the start of the service.

Private interment was held at Quantico National Cemetery, on Monday, April 29, 2024.
