Jeff practiced dentistry in WV, PA, and MD over his forty-two year dental career. He often visited elementary classrooms for dental health month. As a life-long learner, he acquired hundreds of hours of continuing education in the latest dental techniques, like use of nitrous oxide, porcelain veneers for Cosmetic Dentistry, Invisalign, and most recently radiation therapy treatments by Genesis Care.
Jeff attended many national American Dental Academy (ADA) Conferences across the country over his career. He enjoyed the Dental Leadership Seminars as well. As Managing Clinical Director at several Aspen Dental offices in Maryland, Jeff was presented the Aspen Dental Award of Excellence for Exceptional Performance in 2015. Over the years, Jeff provided dental service at no charge during Aspen Dental’s Days of Service for Veterans. Jeff’s most memorable experience was traveling to Trinidad with a team of five to provide dental services as a part of the Aspen Dental Smiles Program.
Jeff lived life to the fullest. He often sponsored his son’s teams as well as coached T-ball and soccer. In order to become a soccer coach, Jeff completed the necessary coaching certification at St. Mary’s College of MD. As a dad of a Cub Scout, he spent time camping out with the pack. He enjoyed Mountaineer football, boating, waterskiing, and skiing the West with family and friends. In later years, Jeff enjoyed road trips to rock concerts he had missed when young.
Jeff was an avid fan of Formula 1 racing, but he loved being on the track at Summit Point Motorsports Park. He acquired his competition license from Skip Barber Racing School in Lime Rock, CT in 1992. He enjoyed SCCA racing in Spec Racer Fords, his Lotus, and Audi at Summit Point and sometimes Watkins Glen. Although those experiences satisfied his need for speed, Jeff still had a fondness for motorcycles, from his Kawasaki 350 back in dental school to later completing a Harley Davisson Driving Course Training at the age of 65. After moving back to Shepherdstown, Jeff acquired Level 1 HPDE Instructor Training by Motor Sports Safety Foundation. Once again Jeff enjoyed being out on the track instructing novice drivers.
Jeff and his wife enjoyed both European river and Mediterranean cruises. Because Jeff had researched his Scottish genealogy and his father’s WWII battles, they traveled to the country roads of Scotland and the solemn cemetery in Normandy. Upon retirement, Jeff studied Tai Chi with a local group and became a lifetime member of the Antietam National Battlefield Institute. Jeff was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, WV.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 208 West German Street, Shepherdstown, WV with Rev. Gethin Wied officiating. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.eackles-spencerfuneralhome.com.
