William C. Loy

Jul 19, 2024

William Craig Loy passed away June 2, 2024, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. He was 64.

A graduate of Musselman High School (1978), Craig went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Marshall University (1987).

Growing up in a family who lived, breathed, and loved politics, it was no surprise Craig’s early career was spent in government and public service. He managed block and formula grant programs for the Governor’s Office of Community and Industrial Development, Criminal Justice and Highway Safety Program. In 1988 he assumed the role of Regional Director for the DMV in the Eastern Panhandle.

In 2001, Craig made the shift to buying and selling real estate. He spent the last 23 years of life as a realtor, and later, as the broker of record for Re/Max Real Estate Group. Craig always said real estate reminded him of his favorite fall outdoor activity – hunting. The thrill of the chase as he helped others achieve their dreams of home ownership was both exciting and rewarding.

Craig loved family, friends, and his home state, West Virginia. No matter where his travels took him, as a Mountaineer he always looked forward to returning home.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mooney Loy; daughter, Olivia Katherine; brother, Thomas (Jan); and sister Ellen Aidock (Clif); in addition to two brothers-in-law, John Mooney (Lon Weingart) and Francis Mooney (Robin); multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his Aunt Mary Lynn.

Craig was predeceased by his parents, William H. Loy (1985) and Virginia Loy Michael (2023); along with his sisters, Mary Ann Zimmerman and Susan Cooper, and two nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Craig’s memory to Hospice of the Panhandle by mail: Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane Kearneysville, WV 25430 or by phone to (304) 264-0406.

A Celebration of Life was planned from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV.
