Norma Jean Sherrard

Norma Jean Sherrard, 94, of Bunker Hill, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, September 13, 2024.

Born October 29, 1929, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lester Theodore Ruppenthal and Viola Snyder Marshall Ruppenthal.

Norma was a graduate of Martinsburg High School class of 1947. She attended Shepherd College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and Home Economics. While at Shepherd she was elected Queen of Shepherd in 1950 by the student body. Upon graduating she taught English and Home Economics at Musselman High School for over 30 years and instituted a Marriage and Family Living class. After retiring from teaching, she worked for W.I.C., and owned and operated a daycare in South Berkeley County. Norma loved reading, needle-working and hosting and entertaining her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Allaine Barney and husband, Kenneth; son, Richard Sherrard and wife Lisa; and sisters, Barbara Jones and Elizabeth Miller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ralph Sherrard; and brothers, Richard and Theodore Ruppenthal.

Family will receive friends Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6PM-8PM at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11AM in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastors Rich Sherrard and Tim Butler officiating.
