James J. Culver

James J. Culver, 67 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his home after a brief fight with cancer. He was a big guy with a big heart, big smile, and big love of life.

Jim was born in 1957 in Elmhurst, IL. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University and served in the US Air Force. Jim was an electronics engineer, who retired from a second career as a 7th grade social studies teacher at South Middle School in Martinsburg. With humor and enthusiasm, his lessons touched hundreds of local youth, as he worked to build character and inspire a love of learning in the students he was honored to serve.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Devlin, four children and four grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jim on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 3pm to 5pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
