Lawrence Robert Merhaut

Lawrence Robert Merhaut, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 88 years old.
Born on November 5, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Penn-sylvania, Larry was the son of the late Evelyn Matilda Grimes Merhaut and Albert John Merhaut. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann McCafferty, with whom he shared 67 years of love, faith, and companionship.
As a young man Larry served in the Naval Reserve. He was also a member of the Association of the U.S. Army.
In 1970, Larry moved his family to Northern Virginia, where he built a successful career as the owner and operator of The L.R. Merhaut Company. As a respected businessman, Larry’s expertise and dedication earned him the admiration of his peers. He was also an active member of the Society of Manufac-turing Engineers and served as its president during his time with the organization.
A passionate car enthu-siast, Larry was a proud and avid member of the Stude-baker Club, where he served as a leader and fostered lasting friendships with fellow members.
A man of deep faith, Larry was devoted to serving the Lord throughout his life. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life, and he was a steady presence in his community and family, known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Larry’s family was the cornerstone of his life, and he loved them with a fierce and unconditional devotion. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his son, Robert Lawrence (Lisa) Merhaut; his daughter, Mary Beth (Anthony) Vultaggio; his grandchildren, Robert Matthew Merhaut, Ryan Merhaut, Kara Lyons, Jenna (Christopher) Leight, Amanda (David) White, Ryan Wilson, and Dylan Merhaut; as well as many cherished great-grandchildren.
Larry was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at St. Agnes Church in Shepherdstown, West Virginia on January 15 with visitation at 11 am and a funeral mass at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Agnes Catholic Church or Blue Ridge Hospice.
