Christian Johnson, Sr.

Christian Edgar Johnson, Sr. 85, of Middletown, MD went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 9, 2025, with his family by his side. Jesus wrapped him in his loving arms and said, well done my faithful servant.
Born June 18, 1939, in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Carlton S. and Laura K. (Becker) Johnson. He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School with the Class of 1957. He went on to study at Shepherd College, DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, and Rutgers University. He began his career at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ where he met the love of his life, Gail. He then worked at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD as a physical scientist for the majority of his working career, where he was awarded multiple patents.
He was a 50-year member of Christ Reformed UCC in Middletown. His name, Christian, was fitting as he was a humble servant of God with his priority being his devotion to his family. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures of nature and gardening and had an unending love of his home state, West “By God” Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Gail (Kanouse) Johnson, his children Jeffrey Johnson, and his wife Patricia, his daughter Laurie James and her husband, Glenn, and his son Christian Johnson, Jr. and his wife Aimee; his sisters Lois Brady, Sharon Butts and her husband, Danny, and Katherine Paquette; his grandchildren Cara Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Christian (Luke) James, Tyler James, Joseph Domingo, Jackson Domingo, Bretton Johnson, Carlton Johnson, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 12 S. Church Street, Middletown on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, for a visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Notice will be given of a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.
