Dolores Swearingen Hadley

Dolores Swearingen Hadley, 91, of Williamsport, MD passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Homewood.

Born October 2, 1933 in Parkersburg, WV to the late Paul A. Swearingen, and Minnie R. Hewitt.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Arizona, and her Doctorate in Colorado and her 2nd Doctorate at John Hopkins, both in Psychology. She worked as head of nursing at the VA Center in Washington upon her retirement. She also taught Psychology at UCLA and Shepherd University.

Dolores traveled the world singing in the National Veterans Affairs Center Choir. She spoke five different languages.

She is survived by her brother Rodney Swearingen and wife Noel; stepchildren, Neysa Gleason, Renee Proctor, Tanya Brown, Barton, Hadley and Richard Hadley; numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and dear friends, Carolyn and Nelson Stephens.

In addition to her mother, Dolores was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Hadley, Sr., and Claude Archer; and son, Stephen Smith.

Services were at 10AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Johnsontown Bible Church in Hedgesville, with Pastor Daryl Welch officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment was at Hedges Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnsontown Bible Church, 68 Camp Frame Rd., Hedgesville, WV 25427.
