Raymond Ulrich

Raymond (Tom) Ulrich, Sr. passed away August 4, 2025 in his apartment at Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, VA.

Tom was a loving, kind, and generous man. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, then served 18 more years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a radio crewman on C130 planes. He loved being in the Coast Guard and celebrated every August 4th (Coast Guard Day) with joy. He even proposed to his wife of 57 years, Arlene (Bowlby) Ulrich, on Coast Guard Day. While in the Coast Guard, Tom attended NY Institute of Technology and, after two years, obtained his BS in Engineering, graduating with honors. After retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3, he worked in the private sector as an electronics engineer and later as a civil engineer contracting on the D.C. Metro systems.

He loved wood working, sporty cars, and dancing. Most of all, he took great joy in his family.

He was a founding member of United Parish of Bowie church in Bowie, MD.

Tom is survived by his wife, Arlene (Bowlby); brother William R. Ulrich; sister Ruth Anne Latourette and husband Ronald; brother John R. Ulrich; son Raymond (Ray) Jr. and wife Nicole; daughter Rebecca Hines and husband Joe; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Adams-Green Funeral home in Herndon, VA on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 2 p.m., where the family will receive friends an hour prior.
