Stephen Christman

Stephen Stone “Stevie” Christman, age 70, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, West Virginia. Born on December 2, 1954, in Washington, D.C., he lived a life marked by dedication to his profession, devotion to his family, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

Steve was the beloved husband of 48 years to Carol Ann Christman and a proud father to his daughter Sara Hammond (Greg) and two sons, Stephen B. Christman (Miranda) of Ranson and Adam L.S. Christman of Shepherdstown. He was a cherished grandfather to Jackson Hammond, Everleigh Christman, and Leighton Christman. His brother John H. Christman (Patricia S.) also survives him, along with numerous nieces and nephews who held him dear.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Adolphus “AV” Christman and Frances Louise Knode Christman.

For four decades, Steve dedicated himself to the care of others as a Respiratory Therapist at City Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His long-standing commitment to healthcare reflected not only his professional skill but also his deep compassion for those in need.

Steve found joy in life’s simple pleasures– love for food and cooking, he loved playing golf and fishing and had a deep appreciation for music. His enthusiasm for life was infectious; he approached each day with a sense of joy that uplifted those around him.

A man of faith, Steve worshipped in the Episcopal tradition throughout his life.

Steve’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and service a life well-lived and deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

Family received friends on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 p.m. at the Melvin T Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Ranson, WV.

Interment will be private.
