Nancy Dutton Wilson

Sep 5, 2025

Nancy Dutton Wilson, 92, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she spent the last four years.

Born Nancy Stiles Dutton on November 13, 1932, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Grace Thayer Dutton and Norman Rolla Dutton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William (Bill) Wilson and her brother Anthony Dutton.

Nancy is survived by her sister Sydney Bortner and brother Stephen Dutton (Valorie Finnie); her daughters Rebecca Wilson, Susan Morrison (Ron), and Laura Jean Wilson (Mark Menting); her son Stephen Wilson (Mimi Wilson); and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends around the world who will miss her dearly.

Nancy attended West Chester State Teachers College, where she studied physical education, and Villanova University. An accomplished athlete in her youth, she played field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse, and was a cheerleader in high school. While raising her children, she served her community as a substitute teacher and scout leader. She later established a successful career in real estate, working until her retirement at age 65.

Nancy believed deeply that experiences were more important than possessions. She and Bill traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and the United Kingdom. Following Bill’s passing, she traveled on her own to New Zealand. Nancy created lasting memories by taking each of her grandchildren on a week-long trip to a destination of their choice. A lifelong advocate for social justice, Nancy was a proud member of the NAACP and remained politically active throughout her life, participating in protests and marches–including two demonstrations just months before her passing. In her later years, she and her friends became devoted fans of the Shepherd University women’s basketball team, enthusiastically attending both home and away games together.

Throughout her life, Nancy was devoted to service and her community. She served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity and the Millbrook Orchestra, worked with the Interfaith Congress of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and volunteered with Hospice of the Panhandle for seven years. A faithful member of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, she served as both elder and deacon. She was a committed member of The Friendship Force, an organization that supports intercultural dialogue and understanding.

A celebration of life service will take place at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Washington St, Shepherdstown, WV on September 13 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church in Nancy’s memory.
