Louisa Katherine Sonnik
Louisa Katherine (Miller) Sonnik, 72, of Charles Town, West Virginia, passed away on August 31, 2025.
Born October 18, 1952 in Hagerstown, Maryland, Louisa was the daughter of the late John Lester Miller and Anna Mae Spinks Miller.
Louisa devoted her life to the pursuit of knowledge and the enrichment of others. A graduate of West Virginia University with a master’s degree in library science, she served with distinction as a librarian at North Middle School in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Throughout her career, Louisa inspired generations of students, instilling in them a love of reading, learning, and intellectual curiosity.
A faithful and active member of the United Church of Christ in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Louisa contributed her time, talents, and compassion to numerous church endeavors including being an active member of the Church Consistory for many many years.
Louisa is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Elizabeth Sonnik of Charles Town, WV; her cherished grandson, Jaxxson Angel; her sister, Cynthia Ann Keller (Robert L.) of Shepherdstown, WV; her brother, John L. Miller (Mary Jo) of Whitsett, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William “Bill” Sonnik III.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson, West Virginia, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Gayle Bach-Watson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the South Jefferson Public Library (49 Church St., Summit Point, WV 25446), reflecting Louisa’s enduring commitment to education.
