Laura Jane Grace Carpenter Howell

Laura Jane Grace Carpenter Howell (Jane), 88, went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Jane was born on Aug 1,1937, in Shepherdstown, WV.

Jane was a long-time member at Daisy’s Chapel Church, in Harpers Ferry, WV. She was employed at Xerox, in Leesburg, VA, for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Nick and Lester Nick; birth father, Harry Carpenter; her late husband, Harry L. Springer II; husband, James W. Nelson; her son, Harry L. Springer, Jr.; daughter, Mary E. Holmes; brothers, Harry Carpenter, Jerry Carpenter, Larry Carpenter, Frankie Nick, Leon Nick, Micheal Nick, Johnny Nick, Pete Nick; sisters, Mary Armstrong, Thema Bartlett, Sherly Martin; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Springer; and son-in-law, Bob Holmes.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Autry Howell; son, Melvin E. Spinger; her daughter, Whitney Painter; sisters, Bessie Rinker, Joyce painter; brother-in-law, Allen Painter; sisters-in-law, Becky Nick, Diane Nick; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; very close friend, Connie Harne; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.

Interment followed at Samples Manor Cemetery, Samples Manor, MD.

The family received friends on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 6:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home.
