Debra Darlene Shoemaker Miller

Oct 3, 2025

Debra Darlene Shoemaker Miller, 70 of Shepherdstown, WV earned her wings to the heavens above on September 16, 2025. Known lovingly by her friends and family as “Debbie”. Debbie’s life was defined by her devotion to her family, her fiery spirit, and her caring heart.

Debbie was the youngest daughter of the late George and Ruth Shoemaker. Born on June 15, 1955, in Cumberland, Maryland, she grew up being the baby of the family chasing around her older siblings Eddie Shoemaker, Donald Shoemaker, and Bonnie Miller.

Debbie found the love of her life Joseph Miller through her siblings and the two married in October of 1973. Joe and Debbie shared a beautiful life that gave them three children, Tracy Howell, Sherry Miller, and Joseph Jr (Joey) Miller. Six in-law children, Sean Domino, Matthew Howell, Willie Hart, Timmy Davis, Mandy Miller, and Amber Miller. Twelve grandchildren, Robert Domino, Tabitha Hockenberry, Carissa Davis, Shayna Davis, Tajiana Hart, Marcus Miller, Kimberly Miller, Alonna Miller, Joseph III (JT) Miller, Julie Johnson, John Hockenberry, and Sarah Main. Seven great grandchildren, John (LJ), Calliope, April, Zander, Myles, James, Kanan, and she was thrilled about her upcoming eighth great grandchild A.J.

Debbie dedicated much of her life, love and care not only to her family, but as an infant and child caregiver for more than 30 years combined in her own home and at Shepherdstown Day Care.

Debbie was known for her green thumb, as she and Joe were always outside working in the yard, painting lawn items, and babying the trees and flowers. When she wasn’t outside, you’d find her in the kitchen baking for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cleaning the house or playing with their fur babies (the late) Tico and Ebony.

Along with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Debbie also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Betty, Rosemary, Karen, and Mary. Brothers-in-law, Roger, Carroll, and Fred. Twelve nephews and nieces Franklin, Anna, Evelyn, Kimberly, Michelle, Donnie, Kim, Roger Jr, Roxane, Jackie, Michael, and Doug.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents George and Ruth Shoemaker and her nephew Charles (Chuck) Everly.

Viewing will be held at Brown Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Debra Miller and mailed to P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116 or online at diabetes.org.

“Though she be but little, she is fierce” by William Shakespeare could quite accurately describe her and the way she lived her life.
