Harriett Hammann Eyler
Harriett Hammann Eyler, born July 6, 1936 in Martinsburg, WV, entered the church triumphant on August 27, 2025 at her home, Eaglehurst.
Harriett graduated from Martinsburg High School and attended Shepherd College. Her love of family, friends, and church was expressed generously throughout her lifetime. She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and enjoyed singing with the Berkeley Community Chorus and Apollo Civic Theatre. She was a member of the NSDAR, Berk-Mar Garden Club, and Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival.
She loved to extend hospitality at the home she shared with her husband. Her love of music, generosity to friends and family, civic mindedness, and strong faith have been passed down as lessons for future generations.
Harriett is survived by daughters Kathy Chapman (Jim), Bess Day (David), son Phil Eyler (Rebekah); and grandchildren Beth Chapman (Brad), John Chapman, Daniel Day (Jessica), John Day (Katie), Mary Day, Sam Eyler (Hannah), Henry Eyler; and great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Emma, and Lincoln. She also leaves behind her loyal dog, Lyric.
She was the daughter of the late Paul and Frances Hammann, and was predeceased by brothers Paul and Edward, and husband, Bruce.
The funeral service was held at Brown’s Funeral Home on September 2, officiated by the Reverend James D. Riley, Jr. Organist Jerry Crites played hymns, and Drew Catrow sang “The King of Love My Shepherd Is”. In addition to grandsons Sam and Henry, pallbearers were Chris Fink, Cody Hottle, Thomas Moler, and Chris Perkins.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of the Panhandle for their many kindnesses. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to Berkeley County Humane Society.
