Earlene Elizabeth Farmer McCabe

Dec 24, 2025

Earlene Elizabeth Farmer McCabe, age 73, passed away at home on Friday, December 12 surrounded by her husband and family.

She valiantly fought Alzheimer’s-dementia for over 12 years.

Earlene was preceded in death by her father, Earl Franklin Farmer and her mother Leota Frances Shirley Farmer.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Michael McCabe; Daughter: Sarah Jenkins and husband Matt: Grandchildren: Brooke and Ryan of Middleway, WV: Son: Michael McCabe II and wife Jennifer: Granddaughter: Kiera of Fitchburg, WI. Also survived by one brother, Franklin Farmer and wife Janet of Inwood, WV; and four sisters, Reine’ Lambert of Martinsburg, WV, Georgia Ann Vogan and husband Keith of Martinsburg, WV, Vicki Lang and Husband Frank of Shadyside, MD, and Shelley Stonebraker and husband Donnie of Inwood as well as 38 nieces and nephews.

Earlene was a 1970 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She was an avid fan and loyal follower of her beloved Bulldogs. She attended Eastern Christian College and was awarded a degree in biblical studies. While there she travelled extensively, singing and playing piano in large and small groups. She graduated from Shepherd College in 1978 with teaching certificates in K-12 health, safety, and physical education, she later got her teaching certification in K-12 library sciences. She was awarded her Master’s Degree in communication in 1995 from West Virginia University.

As librarian at Tomahawk Elementary School, she started the library from nothing and maintained it until her retirement in 2013. She was a long-time member of Tomahawk Christian Church, filling many roles over the years. Most notably, she served as the pianist at the church for over 30 years.

She loved music, especially Christmas music, whether singing or playing.

Earlene also loved sports both high school, college and especially “The Green Bay Packers!” She was especially proud of her “part ownership” (stock holder) in that organization.

Appreciation goes to the Berkeley County Senior Center, and their Dementia caregiver support group for their support over the years. A very special thanks goes to all of the nurses from Hospice of the Panhandle.
