The birth of a Divine Child

By Bill O'Brien - The Wise Guyde | Dec 24, 2021

Some children being born today have looks of striking charm and intelligence. They are carriers of the Divine Child archetype.

The Divine Child archetype, in Jungian psychology, represents what Jung called the Self, with a capital “S.” That’s the True Self, represented metaphorically by the vast underwater portion of an iceberg. The Self is the infinite reservoir of divine potential that resides in our unconscious waiting to merge with our Ego Self above the water line, as it were.

In our time, the Divine Child is rising in the form of the Divine Feminine, the ascendance of the empowered woman.

Christians at this time of year celebrate the birth of another Divine Child, Jesus. Christ is not the only example of a Divine Child.

“We see this in Judaism in the story of the young Moses, and, in the story of Joseph and his brothers. Similar stories surround the Buddha, Heracles the Greek hero, the Egyptian god, Horus, and also the Hindu divine avatar, Krishna. In fact, the motif of the Divine Child, in all its various forms, is found around the world.”

No doubt, celebrating the birth of Jesus is a worthy practice. He is definitely a shining model for humans everywhere. In our time, though, a new awareness is floating up to us, and that is that we ourselves are divine children. Some of us are more aware of that infinite potential within us, than others. If we have that awareness, we are called to pay attention to it and lend our whole hearts and souls to surfacing our unconscious for the good of humanity.

A good first step is to have awareness of movements inside us, that conflict with mainstream thinking. For example, if you hear a Scripture passage read in your place of worship, and your soul listens and says to you, “That’s not what that means,” it’s time to embrace with courage, and, yes, some discerning humility, what then becomes your own truth to share with the world.
