Freedom’s Run coming soon

By Staff | Sep 17, 2010

The phenomenally successful Freedom’s Run multi-event race throughout Shepherdstown and the surrounding area has already become, in only its second year, the largest running extravaganza in West Virginia.

To date, about 2,800 runners have registered to take part in the five races on Oct. 2 – a marathon, a half-marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a children’s race – according to Freedom’s Run organizers.

The various courses wend through Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, along the C&O Canal National Historical Park’s towpath, through the hallowed grounds of Antietam National Battlefield and on the Potomac Heritage Trail, with all the runners coming together for a grand finale in Shepherd University’s football stadium.

Freedom’s Run – A Race for Health and Heritage benefits Wild and Wonderful Trails for Every Child, a local initiative to build fitness trails and learning gardens at every school in Jefferson County.

However, the only way this massive spectacular can continue to be phenomenally successful is for the community to give the race its full support and that means volunteering to assist on race day.

We strongly encourage everyone who can lend a hand to please do so, welcoming runners from across the country and around the globe.

To volunteer, go to the volunteer tab on www.freedomsrun.org and a race committee member will contact you.
