As noted in the Feb. 18 editorial that ran in The Shepherdstown Chronicle, the community has certainly been gearing up for an exciting spring and summer – and the Friends of Music’s concert this weekend is just another example of the wonderful offerings around Shepherdstown.

The Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra (2RCO), one of the few professional orchestras in the state, will perform Saturday night at Shepherd University’s Frank Arts Center. It’s sure to be exciting and not disappoint orchestra goers.

SU Department of Music Chair and 2RCO Conductor Mark McCoy has opted for more eclectic pieces – South American numbers that find their muse in busy metro stations and the seasons – that are also paired with some more traditional pieces – such as the familiar Mendelssohn violin concerto.

It might be risky to take a repertoire to the stage that patrons aren’t used to hearing, but that is what makes the 2RCO so unique and exciting to watch.

With a mix of professional and novice musicians making up the bunch, they play the vibrant pieces with fervor.

Certain to brighten anyone’s mood, the hip pieces are sure to get Shepherdstown out of its winter rut and into spring.
