Plan on fun at the Fair!

By Staff | Aug 19, 2016

As we head into the final weeks of August, it’s time to head out to the Jefferson County Fair!

This year marks the 64th annual fair for our county and the organizers have worked to make it one of the best yet.

We want to say a big kudos to those who decided to bring a larger name entertainer to the event this year. On Wednesday, fair-goers can enjoy the sound of country music recording artist Daryle Singletary. Even nicer about the addition is that one can see the entertainment with only the cost of fair admission.

That item on the week’s agenda is only one to encourage you to come out to the fair.

There are all sorts of fun activities going on for folks of all ages.

Contests galore will be held around the fairgrounds; from milk drinking to tractor driving; corn eating to bull riding.

Watch the experts–and the not so expert try to make their way through the various events.

Enjoy demolition derbies, tractor pulls, carnival rides and more. And don’t forget that each of our school bands perform throughout the week.

Pageant queens will be crowned early so they can participate in all of the week’s events.

Don’t forget the food–oh the delicious, unhealthy, greasy fair food! It is sure to tempt even the most ardent dieters as they smell the smells whilewalking through the fairgrounds.

Of course there are those other smells–those of the animal barns. Our youth (and many adults) take great pride in showing their animals each year in hopes to win the blue ribbon.

There are also those hoping to win ribbons with crafts, cooking, photography and plants. There is truly something for everyone at this annual week of fun.

What better way to end the summer than supporting the Jefferson County Fair!

Make sure you and your family head over to Leetown to enjoy at least a little bit of the excitement. Look for us–we will be there every night soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying all those great things that can only be found at the fair.
