January training set for Friends in Action
How can you make a difference in the lives of low-income families in the Eastern Panhandle? Think about the last time you moved, how confusing it was at first, trying to remember where to find glasses, toothpaste, umbrellas. Now imagine that you are 8 years old and this is the 2nd time this year that you ve moved because your single mom lost her job and you had to move in with your aunt and you were sleeping on the sofa. Now that she is working again, you are living in another strange place, attending a new school. You aren’t sure how long you’ll be here and you are afraid that you’ll be leaving again, too soon.
Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle provides support and mentoring for low income families with children. We help parents work through work related issues and budgets to prevent children from going through the trauma of homelessness. No special talents or qualifications are required for volunteers, just compassion and a desire to help.
Friends in Action will be holding their next mentor volunteer training on two Thursdays in January, the 8th and 15th from 6 to 9 p.m. Call today to find out more about our program and to sign up for this training by contacting the FIAEP office at 876-8500 or email Teresa Warnick, Program Director at twarnick@fiaep.org
