Hospice thanks great volunteers

By Staff | Nov 5, 2010

November is National Hospice Month, a time to consider the importance of hospice care. Hospice of the Panhandle has served the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia for the past 30 years. The organization started small, with just a few patients and a small but dedicated team of volunteers. Over the years, Hospice of the Panhandle has expanded services both in the number of people served and in the variety and frequency of care provided.

Those enrolled in Hospice of the Panhandle receive on average 4.5 visits per week from staff nurses, social workers, hospice aides, chaplains and volunteers. More than 80 percent of the families who responded recently to an evaluation of care survey reported the care their family member received was “excellent.” This speaks strongly to the quality of care that Hospice provides.

As a non-profit organization, Hospice’s focus is to continue to expand and improve that excellent care. Every day, skilled and compassionate staff members are doing just that.

During this month, I invite the community to join me in thanking the volunteers and staff who work and volunteer for Hospice of the Panhandle. Furthermore, I encourage anyone facing serious illness to call us we want to help.
