Public Works needs recognition
I am writing to express my appreciation for the character and skill of the staff of the Shepherdstown Public Works Department.
On Monday this week, I was working with the staff as they provided support for a preservation project at the tobacco warehouse when they were pulled away to work on a blocked sewer on West German Street. While still working on this project, four water lines began leaking in town, including the gusher down German Street. Between the water breaks and the sewer blockage the Public Works staff essentially worked continuously from Monday morning through Wednesday morning to resolve community problems. On Wednesday afternoon they were still working to resolve the sewer blockage on West German Street.
Not only did I observe the crew working efficiently and effectively on simultaneous challenges, but they did so with admirable professionalism and positive interactions with residents. The staff of Public Works is often severely challenged by our deteriorating infrastructure, but they serve us well and deserve our support and appreciation.
Sincerely,
Robert Reynolds
