Happy birthday Shepherdstown, 278 years old on this day. On Oct. 3, 1784, Thomas Shepherd received a land grant, took 50 acres and started to lay out our town. Thirty years later, he applied for a charter in 1762. The founding of the town is 278 years old. The charter for the town is 250 years old.
