Thanks for a successful book sale!
We, as co-chairs, wish to thank all who helped to make the Shepherdstown Community Club annual Book Sale a great success. The sale raised more than $5,500, money that will be recycled (just as the books were) back to the community.
In addition, at the conclusion of the sale the Club was able to donate books to a church in Charles Town for use in its rummage sale, books to an after-school program and hundreds of books to the Rumsey Technical Institute in Hedgesville.
The book sale was made possible by the generosity of many people in the community, those who donated books and all those — including students at Shepherd University — who gave of their time to sort books and to handle the many other necessary tasks. We are grateful to everyone from Shepherdstown and elsewhere who participated in this effort and who supported the Club by coming to the sale and purchasing books.
The War Memorial Building was a hub of activity and lively conversation last weekend, evidence that even in this digital age books and community — still count!
We especially would like to thank Bonnie Austin and her loyal soup makers and servers, who enhanced the book sale by providing a variety of delicious homemade soups and desserts for patrons of the sale to enjoy. So many others contributed that we will not endeavor to mention each one by name; you know who you are and we are most appreciative of your dedication and support.
We regret that we were unable to secure from the town, unlike in years past, a reserved parking space for donors dropping off books, and we apologize for the inconvenience this caused.
Finally, the money from the sale is earmarked for continuing to upgrade the War Memorial Building and Morgan’s Grove Park. We hope that many of you who came to the book sale noticed the newly refinished floors, the new window treatments and the refurbished bathrooms in the War Memorial Building. It is looking quite spiffy these days.
Thanks again to all, and enjoy your books!
