Price too high in Shepherdstown

By Staff | Nov 30, 2012

I’d like to make an open apology to the folks at Four Seasons Books and One Two Kangaroo. I left them with the impression that I’d be back to continue with my Christmas shopping. I won’t.

Although I live just outside of Shepherdstown, I rarely shop there. The time I spent in these two delightful shops made me resolve to visit Shepherdstown more often. I found several small gifts for my grandchildren, and thought other stores might also yield nice gifts on another visit.

I enjoyed myself so much, I forgot that the quarter I’d deposited in a meter only allowed me 1 hour and 8 minutes to browse. I returned to my car a few minutes late and discovered I’d made a $10 mistake. That’s more money than I can afford to throw away. From now on, I’ll shop at Amazon, Books-A-Million and Toys’R’Us, where I can browse all I want without fear of excessive parking fees.

I wonder how many other shoppers have made the same decision? It’s something the business community and the city government need to discuss.

Goodbye, Shepherdstown.
