Many thanks

By Staff | Oct 22, 2013

We have been overwhelmed by the kind words of visitors thanking our town for the amazing welcome they received while visiting us for Freedom’s Run. We had the challenge this year of a Government Shutdown. We would not have been able to pull this off without the help and support of you. We had over 2400 official entrants from over 40 states in the 5 events, including over 300 kids in the Free Kids Fun Run. Without your generous support an event like this could not occur.

Thank you all for participating, volunteering, and cheering. Special thanks to all who stepped up to assist the challenge of rerouting 4 courses in 2 weeks: the amazing volunteers, the sponsors, University Healthcare/WVU, Shepherd University ,the Corporation of Shepherdstown, our amazing local law enforcement, the businesses, citizens along the alternate course, our race committee, and even the Norfolk Southern Rail lines who held trains from 8:30 to after 11 to allow a safe passage for runners. Many events around the country using federal land simply canceled or postponed indefinitely.

We are continuing our themes of Health and Heritage. We have assisted in building a school based fitness trail every year of the event and will continue in 2013. We started Two Rivers Heritage partnership also to promote heritage tourism and preservation. Please see “Our Cause” for more.

2013 was the 5th Annual. We wanted to make this one really special. The start on German Street was priceless to our locals and guests. From the responses of the runners I think YOU did. We hope you will support Freedom’s Run again.

With great thanks,

The Freedom’s Run Race Committee
