Dear Shepherdstown Businesses:
Shepherd University students from the Department of Sociology and Geography would like to ask for your assistance in supporting international aid for Typhoon victims in the Philippines.
Over 4,000 have died, and nearly a million have been displaced by one of the strongest typhoons (hurricanes) ever recorded.
The students of my Geography of World Cultures class are organizing a donation drive on December 6th and 7th, to coincide with the beginning of “Christmas on German Street.” We hope that your business can contribute to this town-wide effort.
My class will try to bring as many additional patrons as possible to your door during this weekend event (through online, in-person, intra-mural, and in-print promotions of the donation drive).
In return, we ask that you pledge to provide one of the following collection options for Typhoon victims in the Philippines.
Option 1: Percentage
A percentage of all proceeds for one weekend (December 6th and 7th) will be donated to the Red Cross for Typhoon relief in the Philippines.
Option 2: Flat Donation per-purchase
“For everyone who purchases a [particular item or service] during the first weekend of Christmas on Main Street (Dec. 6th and 7th), we will donate ___ dollars to the Red Cross for Typhoon relief.”
Option 3: Donation Jar
Allow a donation jar at your establishment on Dec. 6th and 7th, and encourage patrons to contribute to Typhoon relief in the Philippines.
Please let our class representative know what “Option” you would prefer, and we will arrange the collection.
Every dime or dollar collected will be donated directly to the Red Cross relief effort for Typhoon Haiyan.
