We are all dealing with pent-up desires to get out in our gardens and flower beds and make up for lost time after this very cold and protracted winter. To make matters worse, we are also inundated with ads and catalogs from seed companies and nurseries offering all kinds of delightfully exotic and luscious plants that promise a rich harvest and assurance of beautiful flowers — all for a modest price of course. It is enough to make your green thumb twitch. But before you take the plunge I thought it would be a neighborly gesture to remind everyone that the annual Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club plant sale is just around the corner and worth waiting for.

For probably half the price you will be able to get a wide variety of already naturalized and thriving plants lifted with gentle loving care from the gardens and beds of Club members. They are busily making divides and transplanting, digging into compost piles and hoards of pots and planters to provide their usual array of treasures. It is the mission of this long-standing community organization to share the wealth from their gardening endeavors and continue to help preserve the beauty of our little corner of the world.

Due to a scheduling conflict the plant sale will not be held this year in the Trinity Episcopal Church yard. It will be conducted just a block away on Saturday morning, May 3rd starting at 09:00 in the front yard of Steve and Rebecca Ayraud at 105 West New Street in Shepherdstown. This is always a “rain or shine” event so I urge you to put it on your calendar.
