Pleased to support Springer

By Staff | May 30, 2014

I am pleased to see that Dave Springer is running for public office here in Shepherdstown. I’ve gotten to know Dave and his wife, Julia, as neighbors and as members of several local organizations. Dave is the town representative to the Historical Shepherdstown Commission Board, on which I serve as secretary. When I began my tenure, I had never served on a board of directors, and I had never been a secretary. My first few experiences with taking minutes and accurately presenting them to the board were quite daunting and somewhat discouraging when I made errors. Dave was very supportive and encouraging during those early days. Thanks, Dave!

With every interaction I’ve had with Dave, in many situations, both as a neighbor and a co-volunteer, Dave has always thought before he spoke, attempted to see others’ points of view, and without fail, been courteous to everyone.

Dave has strong opinions; this is not a criticism. In a town like Shepherdstown, where many people are well-educated, accomplished, and frankly, opinionated, it is important to think through the tough issues and take a stand for what is thought to be the best action to take. Dave knows how to do just that!

When the famous maple tree fell in the Shepherd Family Cemetery last fall, Dave and Julia were among the first volunteers to help with the removal process. That was a very large and heavy tree! Dave worked tirelessly; he coordinated with other volunteers with the needed trucks and equipment; he showed up when he said he would and stayed until the last of the tree was removed. He and Julia even volunteered as docents to the cemetery during the Back Alley Garden Tour!

I believe Dave will do an excellent job if he is elected Town Recorder. He has the skills needed to do the work, and he will be reliable, courteous, and very capable!
